Annihilation
Annihilation is a 2018 adventure/sci-fi film directed by Alex Garland, and loosely based on the book of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. The film stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac. The film follows a biologist who signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition into an environmental disaster zone where the laws of nature do not apply in hopes to find her missing husband.
2017:
Murder on the Orient Express
Murder on the Orient Express is a 2017 drama/mystery film directed by Kenneth Branagh, and is based on the 1934 novel of the same name by Agatha Christie. The film stars Kenneth Branagh, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Derek Jacobi, Leslie Odom Jr., Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley. The film is the fourth adaptation of Christie's novel, and takes place on a lavish train ride that unfolds into a stylish and suspenseful mystery as one man races to try and solve the puzzle before another murder strikes again.
2016:
Passengers
Passengers is a 2016 sci-fi/drama film directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts. The film stars Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence as two passengers on a spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet. During the transport of thousands of people, two sleep chambers malfunction and result in two passengers waking up 60 years early.
2015:
The Martian
The Martian is a 2015 sci-fi/drama film directed by Ridley Scott, and based on Andy Weir's 2011 novel The Martian. The film stars Matt Damon as an astronaut who is mistakenly presumed dead and left behind on Mars; and depicts his struggle to survive and others' efforts to rescue him.
2014:
Interstellar
Interstellar is a 2014 adventure/sci-fi film directed by Christopher Nolan, and written by Johnathan Nolan. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as he joins a team of explorers who travel through a wormhole in space in an attempt to ensure humanity's survival.
2013:
Oblivion
Oblivion is a 2013 action/sci-fi film co-written, produced and directed by Joseph Kosinski. The film stars Tom Cruise as a veteran assigned to extract Earth's remaining resources and through a series of events begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself.
2012:
Chronicle
Chronicle is a 2012 sci-fi/thriller directed by Josh Trank as his directorial debut. It follows three Seattle high school seniors, bullied Andrew (Dane DeHaan), his cousin Matt (Alex Russell) and more popular Steve (Michael B. Jordan), who form a bond after gaining telekinetic powers from an unknown object. They first use their abilities for mischief and personal gain until Andrew turns to darker purposes, which slowly turns him insane.
2011:
Super 8
Super 8 is a 2011 sci-fi/thriller written, co-produced, and directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film stars Joel Courtney, Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler and tells the story of a group of young teenagers who are filming their own Super 8 movie when a train derails, releasing a dangerous presence into their town.
2010:
Inception
Inception is a 2010 sci-fi/action film written, co-produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious, and is offered a chance to have his criminal history erased as payment for a task seemingly-impossible: "inception", the implantation of another person's idea into a target's subconscious.
